About The Position
Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is seeking a Transportation Student Intern to support ongoing projects in their Brentwood, TN office. This internship is designed for high school students interested in engineering, city planning, construction, or transportation systems. The intern will learn how engineers and planners design and improve various transportation infrastructure, including roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, intersections, highways, and public transportation systems. The goal of this opportunity is to provide students with career exploration, workplace skills, and exposure to transportation projects, with no prior experience required.
Requirements
- Current high school student
- Interest in engineering, transportation, architecture, or city planning
- Willingness to learn and ask questions
- Positive attitude and dependable behavior
- Basic computer skills helpful but not required

Responsibilities
- Observe and assist transportation engineers and planners with daily tasks
- Learn how traffic studies and roadway designs are created
- Help organize project files, maps, and reports
- Attend team meetings and ask questions about projects
- Learn basic computer programs used in engineering and planning
- Support field visits to roads, intersections, or construction sites when available
- Research transportation topics such as traffic safety, bike paths, or public transit
- Practice communication and teamwork skills in a professional environment
