About The Position

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) Field Services Group / Mt. Hood Region is seeking a Transportation Services Representative 1 for the North Portland DMV. In this role, you will assist the public with obtaining a driver license, registering vehicles, and issuing permits and license plates. You will also administer knowledge, skill, and vision tests to potential drivers, ensure correct fees are collected, provide information about regulations and policies, and administer behind-the-wheel drive tests. ODOT provides the necessary training to make decisions using vehicle laws, agency policies, and regulations. Requirements

  • Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in person or by phone providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
  • Three months experience collecting money and making change.
  • Completion of an associate’s degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.
  • Valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to type at least 30 words per minute with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the public with obtaining a driver license, registering vehicles, and issuing permits and license plates.
  • Administer knowledge, skill, and vision tests to potential drivers.
  • Ensure correct fees are collected.
  • Provide information about regulations and policies.
  • Administer behind-the-wheel drive tests.
  • Help the public register vehicles and apply for permits.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while following privacy laws.
  • Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to accurately answer complex questions in a way that is easily understood.
  • Produce photo licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards.
  • Administer, correct, and explain driver license tests.
  • Conduct and interpret results of driver vision tests.
  • Perform physical examinations of vehicles and verify vehicle identification numbers.
  • Prepare daily bank deposits and account for sensitive inventory.
  • Occasionally perform relief work in other DMV offices within the region.
