About The Position

Responsible for maintaining compliance with all local, state, federal laws and company policies and maintaining transportation safety programs to ensure a safe and accident-free work environment for transportation personnel and other safety-related duties. This position supervises the Log Auditor position and carries out and oversees interviewing, selecting, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree from a two-year college
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, federal and state laws and regulations and company policies.
  • Knowledge of DOT drug testing, physical exams, and license renewals policies and regulations.
  • Ability to enter data, compile documents, and work accurately and efficiently with detailed transactional information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, management, and owner operators.
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Proficiently working with various software programs.
  • Ability to maintain good attendance habits.
  • Abide by all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description.
  • Abide by company’s safety, quality, environmental and HR policies at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Basic First Aid and Adult/Child CPR is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and maintains corporate compliance with Department of Transportation regulations including driver qualification files, drug/alcohol testing, and records of duty status to obtain and maintain a “Satisfactory” safety rating.
  • Assists Maintenance on vehicle maintenance files to assure the files meet DOT standards.
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, evaluating, selecting, and hiring of new drivers and owner/operators to ensure candidates meet company safety standards and DOT regulations.
  • Conduct and/or arrange for new driver road tests, training, and orientation.
  • Maintain a comprehensive drivers’ manual.
  • Review transportation policies and procedures and work with Safety Manager and Transportation General Manager in updating as needed.
  • Document and maintain records on all company accidents, incidents, and vehicle damage, and other data as it relates to transportation safety and the damage bonus program.
  • Compile monthly/annual accident/damage reports.
  • Investigates all transportation related accidents and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in internal investigations, hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Provide education and/or training programs for drivers and transportation personnel to enhance their safety knowledge and reduce accidents/injuries.
  • Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
  • Maintain driver database.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety requirements.
  • Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workstation/environment at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
