About The Position

The Transportation Safety & Compliance Manager 1 plans, directs, and implements organizational safety programs to ensure compliance with various federal, state, and county regulatory agencies including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, OSHA, and California OSHA, among others. This role is crucial for maintaining public safety and ensuring the company adheres to all applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • Five years of related experience/education/certification.
  • One year of supervisory/lead experience.
  • Knowledge of state or federal regulation as it relates to motor carrier safety operating practices.
  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA, HAZWOP, Confined Space, Transportation HAZMAT, and Forklift certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct periodic internal reviews or audits to ensure compliance procedures are followed, and conduct or direct internal investigation of compliance issues.
  • Protect assets by establishing compliance standards; anticipate emerging compliance trends by designing improvements to the internal control structure.
  • Assess compliance or operations risks and develop risk management strategies. Enforce regulations, company policy, recommend new procedures, and comply with legal requirements to avoid legal challenges.
  • Develop safety and compliance organizational strategies by contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction; establish functional objectives in line with organizational objectives.
  • Develop, update, maintain, and implement workplace safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Inspect organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, implement risk management strategies and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Update and maintain written policies and procedures related to compliance activities.
  • Lead investigation of accidents, incidents, spills, and injuries and cooperate in the preparation of materials and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain driver qualification files, safety files and records, including maintenance of all training records.
  • Review driver applications and approve hiring of individuals seeking employment with the company whose duties involve driving company vehicles.
  • Issue or direct other operational personnel in progressive discipline procedures regarding employees found in violation of the FMCSA and Drug and Alcohol Programs.
  • Stay current of the rules and regulations of government agencies at the federal, state, and local levels. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Accomplish compliance human resource strategies by determining accountabilities; communicating and enforcing values, policies, and procedures; implementing recruitment, selection, orientation, training, coaching, counseling, disciplinary, and communication programs; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation strategies.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
