This role involves developing and implementing school bus routes and schedules to provide transportation for students from home to school and back. Utilizing computerized RouteFinder routing software, you will develop school bus routes within the framework of Board of Education policies and procedures. You will also manage student information, handle requests for route changes, publish and update routes for drivers, ensure balanced student loads and equitable driver responsibilities, and coordinate specialized transportation. A key aspect of this role is maintaining a system for timely responses to parent and staff inquiries and ensuring schools receive up-to-date information on student transportation assignments.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalency
  • Experience with New World payroll and invoicing system
  • Experience with PowerSchool student management system
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Experience with the operation of a computer terminal and data entry techniques
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations and processes

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement school bus routes and schedules to provide transportation for students from home to school and back.
  • Use computerized RouteFinder routing software to develop school bus routes within the framework of Board of Education policies and procedures.
  • Rollover student’s personal and routing information at the end of each school year and update as needed for the upcoming school year.
  • Receive written, telephonic, and electronic requests from parents, school staff and transportation staff related to establishment, or change, in bus routes and bus stops.
  • Publish hard-copy routes for school buses to the drivers; issue updated routes and/or paperwork as and when student changes are made in regards to bus stop times or locations.
  • Ensure that student load counts are balanced and driver responsibilities are equitable throughout the district.
  • Assign buses to routes consistently while complying with district and/or department guidelines of bus overloading and length of ride times.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual reports for school registration and student transportation assignments.
  • Coordinate vocational school transportation and other specialized out of district school transportation.
  • Maintain a system for receiving contacts from parents and others that will ensure response within 24 hours, and daily follow-up until the contact is closed.
  • Sustain a system for obtaining the names of students affected by bus, or bus stop changes so that schools can receive timely information on which to base student database entries.
  • Provide up-to-date maps and route sheets for substitute drivers to ensure successful route coverage in regular drivers’ absence.
  • Communicate with department and district employees, parents, and students using phone, radio, and email.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and needed.
