About The Position

We are seeking a Transportation Roadway Designer to join our team in Jacksonville, FL. AtkinsRéalis seeks an energetic, detail‑oriented self‑starter to join our team in Jacksonville, Florida as a Transportation Roadway Designer, supporting the Florida Department of Transportation District Two, General Engineering Consultant (GEC) Program, working as an "extension of staff" in the client’s ‘office. Your role Responsible for the development of roadway plan efforts and report preparation for in-house projects ranging from minor intersection improvements to major reconstruction projects. This may include significant coordination with internal and external design support staff, client staff and local governing agencies. Participates in the production of in‑house traffic design, signing and pavement markings. Performs and reviews engineering construction cost estimates using FDOT Long-Range Estimate (LRE) software system. Prepares, Reads, Interprets, and reviews plans, design reports, specifications, and cost estimates for major transportation projects. Performs designs utilizing CAD and proficiency in OpenRoads. Position does require time management and organizational skills as the individual will be involved in multiples projects operating on multiple schedules. May coordinate with professionals, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments. Organizes or directs field visits to collect data or resolve design conflicts. Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or equivalent with 5+ years' experience, or Associate's degree plus a minimum of 12 years' progressive drafting and design experience, including at least 4 as a Designer, or HS diploma (or equivalent) plus a minimum of 15 years progressive drafting and design experience, including at least 7 as a Designer.
  • Must be familiar with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Policy and Procedures, including the Florida Design Manual (FDM) and FDOT Standard Plans.
  • Must be highly proficient with MicroStation/OpenRoads or AutoCAD Civil 3D software packages.

Nice To Haves

  • General Engineering Consultant (GEC) experience is a plus.
  • Incumbent should be seeking applicable registration if movement onto the Engineering career path is contemplated.
