About The Position

The Transportation Realty Agent Senior in this position reports to the District Seven Right of Way Office in Lewis County. The selected applicant performs advanced-level work in real property appraisal, rights acquisition, relocation assistance, property management, and right-of-way engineering and surveying. Distinguishing factors are the advanced, complex nature of the negotiations and properties for which this position is responsible. This position serves as a lead worker over a group of lower-level realty agents. Performs related work as required. Pay Grade 16

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Applicants must have completed the Division of Highways course "Appraisal Principles" or one appraisal course recognized by the Appraisal Institute or the National Society of Real Estate Appraisers.
  • Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in appraisal or appraisal review, negotiations, real estate management or real estate sales, relocation, other right-of-way experience, construction, surveying, or related business operations.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience, as described below, may be substituted for the required training/education through an established formula.
  • Successful completion of graduate coursework from a regionally accredited college or university may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience through an established formula.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Transportation Realty Agent classification series.

Responsibilities

  • Performs functions on complex and special client projects in negotiations, relocation assistance, and property management.
  • Negotiates through personal contact with owners or their agents the purchase of real property for right-of-way purposes, when such purchase involves complicated problems and/or special clients.
  • Determines real property value on a wide variety of residential, commercial, and/or industrial property.
  • Trains, assigns, and reviews work of other negotiators, relocation agents, and/or property managers in a district.
  • Coordinates general transportation reality activities with representatives of other divisions within the agency and, when appropriate, with representatives of other agencies of state and/or local government.
  • May be required to testify in court or at hearings to provide right-of-way and/or appraisal expertise.
