About The Position

Design streets and public spaces that connect people. At Toole Design, our multidisciplinary teams are creating safer and more accessible streets, trails, parks, civic spaces, and mobility networks. We're looking for a Transportation Project Engineer I or II to join our team in Cleveland, OH, someone who's excited to lead impactful roadway and active transportation projects that reflect our mission and values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering
  • PE license (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • 6+ years of experience developing roadway/highway construction documents (8+ for Project Engineer II)
  • Strong background in civil engineering (roadway and geometric design, 3D modeling, accessible design)
  • Experience with signing and pavement marking, including MUTCD standards, as well as familiarity with PROWAG requirements
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: MicroStation (including InRoads and/or OpenRoads Designer), AutoCAD (including Civil 3D)
  • Experience using programs such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Experience using programs such as Synchro, Highway Capacity Software, MicroStation, and AutoCAD

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multimodal transportation projects and multidisciplinary coordination (utilities, ROW, signals, etc.)
  • Experience with permitting, agency coordination, construction documentation, and cost estimating
  • Exposure to construction management
  • Familiarity with local agencies such as ODOT

Responsibilities

  • Manage tasks on projects from concept development, design review, bid package development, permitting, and construction management.
  • Help develop construction documents.
  • Work with your team to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.
  • Assist in the creation of signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic, and traffic signal plans for roadway projects and streetscapes in urban settings.
  • Use state of the art tools and practices to help create sustainable multimodal transportation networks.
  • Work on a wide spectrum of projects that inform your design work, including road diet analyses, multimodal traffic studies for new development, roundabout studies, trail/roadway intersection studies and designs, and parking studies and design guidance.
