About The Position

The City of Lawrence, KS is seeking to fill the position of Transportation Planning Intern. This position is a part-time position (20 hours maximum per week). The Transportation Planning Intern will assist transportation planning staff implementing the Lawrence – Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization work plan through a variety of duties that will involve: conducting public outreach, assisting with meeting setup and preparation, formatting documents, reviewing and editing document content, writing and designing sections of reports, gathering and organizing data, participating in meetings, interacting with other local and state government officials, and experiencing a wide range of activities performed by MPO staff. data quality control, conducting public outreach assisting with meeting setup and preparation, formatting documents, reviewing and editing content, writing sections of reports, gathering and organizing data, participating in meetings, interacting with other local and state government officials, and experiencing a wide range of activities performed by the transportation planning staff. This position is designed to develop the leadership and technical skills of the intern while providing the City with highly capable staff support. Requirements

  • Willingness to learn transportation planning principles
  • Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Strong writing and editing skills with a high attention to detail
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Pass a background check
