About The Position

Under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Planning in the Division of Project Delivery, this position serves as Multi-Modal Planning Chief for Transportation Planning across the state. This position supervises the Alaska Community Transit Office and the Department’s transit programs. Work will include federal reporting requirements, contract management, grant program management and conducting other federally required and recommended planning projects.

Requirements

  • Possess core competencies in Budget Administration: Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget administration and analysis; including preparing, justifying, reporting on, and executing the budget; and the relationships among program, budget, accounting, and reporting systems.
  • Possess core competencies in Organizational Awareness: Knows the organization's mission and functions, and how its social, political, and technological systems work and operates effectively within them; this includes the programs, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the organization.
  • Possess core competencies in External Awareness: Understands and keeps up-to-date on local, national, and international policies and trends that affect the organization and shape stakeholders' views; is aware of the organization's impact on the external environment.

  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Post-secondary education in urban, regional, transportation, or landscape planning; AND/OR Experience in environmental, transportation, or community development; architecture; civil engineering; landscape architecture; urban design; historic preservation; geography; geographic information systems; housing administration; grant administration; accounting; business management; or research.
  • Experience should include some combination of the design of research projects, setting standards for technical adequacy, and/or coordinating the planning contributions of lower level planners or other agencies, multi-modal transportation planning, and/or Capital Improvement Program (CIP) development and control.
