About The Position

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is hiring seasonal Transportation Operations Technicians to support highway maintenance and winter operations in St. Johnsbury. This hands-on role involves a variety of tasks that keep Vermont’s roads safe and reliable, including repairing guardrails, patching pavement, ditching, clearing brush, and picking up litter. Seasonal staff also play a critical role in plowing and salting during winter weather events. Overtime may be required. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Requirements

One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor INCLUDING EITHER one season of operating a snowplow with wings OR six (6) months of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, excavators, and backhoes.
A Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
An incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation.
Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement is required within the first six months of employment.
An incumbent must complete all VTTC required coursework within one (1) year or be enrolled.
Must provide detailed employment information for the past 10 years for commercial motor vehicle operation.
Must be available for considerable overtime during heavy snowfall or other emergencies.
Must be able to use tools and lift materials commonly used in maintenance work.
Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required.
