About The Position

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is hiring seasonal Transportation Operations Technicians to support highway maintenance and winter operations in Dummerston. This hands-on role involves a variety of tasks that keep Vermont’s roads safe and reliable, including repairing guardrails, patching pavement, ditching, clearing brush, and picking up litter. Seasonal staff also play a critical role in plowing and salting during winter weather events. Overtime may be required.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor INCLUDING EITHER one season of operating a snowplow with wings OR six (6) months of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, excavators, and backhoes.
  • A Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
  • An incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation.
  • Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement is required within the first six months of employment.
  • An incumbent must complete all VTTC required coursework within one (1) year or be enrolled.
  • In accordance with federal regulation, any person applying for employment as an operator of a commercial motor vehicle must provide detailed employment information for the past 10 years. Therefore, the Work Experience section of your online application must include: A list of the names and addresses of previous employers for which you were an operator of a commercial motor vehicle, The dates you were employed by these employers, The reason for leaving employment.
