About The Position

The Agency of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Operations Technician I. This position is responsible for various tasks related to highway maintenance, such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. In the winter months, this position will also assist with plowing and salting, and overtime may be required. These entry-level positions offer excellent benefits, opportunities for career development, and a CDL training program. This position is eligible for a sign-on and retention bonus of up to $2000! Newly hired CDL and non-CDL holders who are hired into permanent maintenance worker or mechanic job on or after July 13, 2025 are eligible. The step 1 rate for pay grade 18 will be $21.41 per hour and the step 15 rate will be $33.11 per hour.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old
• A valid driver's license is required
• Must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation
• Must complete all VTTC required coursework within six (6) months or be enrolled
• Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required prior to operation of vehicles or operating equipment

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for the successful completion of original probation.
