About The Position

The Transportation Operations Specialist is responsible for coordinating shipments according to customer instructions (SOP’s) and ensure compliance with DOT regulations and established internal policies and guidelines. This role involves assisting with the hire of 3rd party carriers, managing chassis agreements, maintaining carrier databases, and acting as a primary contact for carrier rate disputes. The specialist will also dispatch drivers, understand regional drayage needs, prioritize time-sensitive cargo, and expedite shipments as needed to meet customer requirements. Communication with operations teams for status updates and assisting in risk mitigation (e.g., reducing detention, storage, and per diem charges) are also key aspects of the position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience in drayage dispatch or supply chain experience.
  • 2 years of drayage dispatch/planning experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to quickly learn new software to include our POS, and various other programs as they become necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the hire of 3rd party carriers to execute both pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Receive and process work orders received from LS operations team / system.
  • Help to manage chassis agreements with each provider to ensure maximum profitability, in addition to providing chassis provider pre-alerts.
  • Maintain carrier database with respect to providers, rates, expiration dates.
  • Act as the first contact for carrier rate disputes.
  • Develop and maintain excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Dispatch drivers for shipment pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Know and understand all drayage needs by region for customer base both import and export.
  • Prioritize time sensitive cargo.
  • Notify drivers of pick-up and delivery assignments.
  • Expedite cargo as needed to meet customer requirements both during and after work hours as needed.
  • Communicate, send status updates as needed to/from operations teams.
  • Assist with corporate goals to eliminate as much risk (cost exposure) as possible (i.e., Reduce detention, storage and per diem charges).
