About The Position

The Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking a Transportation Operations Management Analyst to join our Operations team within the Transportation Engineering and Operations (TE&O) Bureau. TE&O manages over 900 miles of roadway and works to optimize the use of Arlington County’s streets and infrastructure to move people and goods safely and efficiently across all forms of transportation. This position is responsible for evaluating operational safety impacts of temporary and permanent uses of the public right-of-way, administering shared curb space regulations, addressing customer requests, and coordinating signage to enhance safety and accessibility for all roadway users.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Public Administration or a related field; and Considerable experience in transportation operations focusing on multi-modal access, analysis, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and regulate the County’s right-of-way (ROW) and curb space, addressing traffic impacts from competing requests for temporary and permanent curbside uses, including moving vans, PODs, block parties, special events, parklets, tour buses, and farmers markets.
  • Oversee the TE&O Bureau’s as-built plan review process using OnBase or similar tools and lead on-site inspections of signage and pavement markings to ensure assets are accurately documented.
  • Lead safety reviews; develop signage and pavement marking concepts; review plans; and provide technical expertise for multimodal urban safety improvement projects, including ADA and pedestrian requirements, bicycle accommodations, transit operations, and curb space uses.
  • Develop, review, and evaluate procedural guidelines and technical standards for on-site surveys, operational evaluations, and the application of safety mitigation measures.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned in support of program, bureau, and County priorities.
