About The Position

The Transportation Officer is responsible for conducting pre- and post-trip inspections on all vehicles, ensuring all potential safety defects are reported, and maintaining the necessary paperwork for inmate/detainee transfers. This role requires providing custody safety and security of offenders/detainees during transfers between agencies. The officer must adhere to all applicable traffic laws, drive safely, and maintain the sanitation of transport vehicles. Additionally, the role involves promoting positive social skills, maintaining accountability of staff, inmates, and property, and complying with Federal, State, FMCSA, and DOT Regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 23 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clear MVR for three (3) years.
  • Valid CDL (required) with the Passenger (P) endorsement.
  • Valid Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse - DOT (required).
  • Required to maintain specific State and Federal licenses due to contractual agreements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts pre- and post-trip inspections on all vehicles.
  • Provides written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) post trip or shift.
  • Ensures all potential safety defects are reported to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Maintains all necessary paperwork for the transfer of inmates/detainees in accordance with LaSalle Corrections Transport, LLC. (LCT, LLC.) and LaSalle Corrections policies, procedures, and contractual agreements.
  • Provides custody safety and security of offenders/detainees.
  • Responsible for the transfer of offenders/detainees from one agency to another.
  • Reads, reviews, and properly applies information found in inmate records related to health, safety, and facility security.
  • Provides appropriate information to other personnel.
  • Obeys all applicable traffic laws, drives posted speed limits, and must wear safety belts.
  • Drives facility vehicles in a safe and defensive manner according to policy and procedures.
  • Ensures the sanitation of transport vehicles by cleaning after every transfer and maintaining a log.
  • Promotes the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
  • Maintains accountability of staff, inmates, and property; adheres to safety practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
  • Complies with Federal, State, FMCSA Regulations and DOT Regulations.
