Transportation Manager
About The Position
VP Racing is hiring a full-time Transportation Manager to lead and optimize transportation across our internal fleet, over-the-road carriers, and rail network. You’ll partner with Operations, Fleet Safety, Regional Managers, IT, and Accounting to drive efficient, compliant, and cost-effective freight execution. This role will be based at our San Antonio, Texas Corporate Headquarters location. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role takes a data-driven approach to transportation strategy, carrier negotiations, modal optimization, and systems implementation. You’ll lead or support the rollout of a freight execution system integrated with NetSuite, while delivering analytical insights that shape operational and financial decisions.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Finance, or a related field, along with at least five (5) years of transportation or logistics management experience AND/OR any combination of education and experience that results in the applicable skills, knowledge, and abilities.
- Hands-on experience with truck transportation and carrier management.
- Experience working with or managing rail transportation, rail-served facilities, or intermodal movements.
- ERP or TMS experience; NetSuite experience preferred.
- Experience negotiating freight rates and managing carrier relationships.
- Extremely organized and able to manage the logistics of multiple duties with professionalism and strong communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment is critical for success in the role, as are high levels of accuracy, timeliness and dependability.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization, work effectively with all levels of employees and management, and assist in providing solutions to challenges that arise.

Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day transportation execution across the internal fleet, common carriers, and rail network
- Develop and execute transportation strategies that balance cost, service, capacity, and risk
- Evaluate and optimize the mix of company-owned fleet versus third-party carriers
- Source, qualify, and manage relationships with motor carriers, brokers, Class I railroads, short lines, and transload providers
- Negotiate freight rates, accessorial charges, service levels, and insurance requirements
- Direct rail movements end-to-end, including railcar ordering, placement, release, dwell management, and billing
- Mitigate rail demurrage, storage, and accessorial exposure through proactive coordination and data analysis
- Partner with Fleet Safety to keep transportation operations aligned with regulatory and insurance requirements
- Lead or support the implementation of a freight execution or transportation management system integrated with NetSuite
- Collaborate with IT and Accounting to ensure accurate freight costing, accruals, reporting, and system controls
- Analyze transportation data to surface cost-reduction opportunities and service improvements
- Build and maintain transportation KPIs and dashboards for Operations and executive leadership
- Lead variance analysis on freight and transportation spend
