About The Position

This recruitment is for a Temporary Transportation Maintenance Worker in Irvine. The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 5am - 1pm. The University of California, Irvine (UCI) seeks to provide a safe and healthy environment for the entire UCI community. This is a temporary employment recruitment reporting to the UCI Temporary Employment Services (TES) Department. Interviewing and hiring is based on internal hiring needs and how well the candidate's experience matches the assignment requirements. Certain temporary assignments may require clearance of a health physical or require a valid California Driver’s License for driving university vehicles. The majority of our temporary positions are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. We also have occasional part-time, weekend, and evening hours available, depending on the assignment. Requirements

  • Valid California Driver License and ability to safely work around moving vehicles in parking lots, roadways, and transportation facilities.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, climbing stairs, lifting over 50 pounds, and operating maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of safe cleaning methods, proper handling of cleaning chemicals, and basic maintenance practices.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, along with the ability to complete work orders and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions in English.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in transportation, parking operations, facilities maintenance, public works, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair, including electric carts or other fleet equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans.
  • Experience with asphalt maintenance, including crack sealing, slurry application, and parking lot striping.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and cleaning of parking structures, parking lots, transportation facilities, kiosks, mailboxes, and departmental buildings to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Support transportation infrastructure maintenance, including asphalt repairs, parking stall markings, wayfinding signage, and electric vehicle charging stations.
  • Assist with maintenance and repair of departmental vehicles, electric carts, traffic signals, and other parking and transportation equipment.
  • Complete work orders, operate specialized maintenance and cleaning equipment, and perform general labor tasks in support of Transportation & Distribution Services operations.
