About The Position

Under the direction of the Transportation Manager, the Lead Transportation Driver is responsible for primarily driving as required by volume demand at the Day Health Center and secondarily assisting the Transportation Coordinator with daily tasks as assigned or designated. This role involves planning and managing transportation schedules, serving as a backup to the Transportation Coordinator, and ensuring effective communication regarding participant needs and vehicle status. The Lead Driver also plays a key role in daily pre-trip meetings, real-time adjustments to routes and schedules, and ensuring the safety and maintenance of vehicles.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel.
  • Extremely organized and detailed oriented.
  • Able to manage multiple data sets.
  • Lead effectively under multiple and quickly changing situations.
  • Three years’ work experience in related field and/or supervision/management of five or more staff.
  • Capable of and experienced in transporting individuals with special mobility needs or ability to learn.
  • A valid, unrestricted, Michigan CDL license Class B with Passenger endorsement and a driving record that falls into an acceptable category, according to Corporate Insurance standards or receive endorsement within six months of employment.
  • The ability to lift and/or carry 50 pounds or more.
  • Must meet a standardized set of competencies (approved by CMS) before working independently.
  • Must be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have all immunizations up-to-date before engaging in direct participant contact.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Transportation Coordinator as needed to plan and manage the scheduling of transportation to and from the center for program participants.
  • Serve as back up Transportation Coordinator in the absence of the Transportation Coordinator.
  • Communicate appropriate information regarding participant tolerance while riding on the CSI vehicles and/or other related concerns.
  • Assist staff in reporting and recording customer feedback using the Improve PACE Forms (IPF).
  • Monitor and follow up on customer complaints.
  • Follow up with Transportation Manager appropriately on all unusual occurrences reported by the transportation staff.
  • Assist the transportation staff in completing any necessary documentation logs concerning vehicle maintenance and/or safety maintenance.
  • Assure that all vehicles are kept in safe and satisfactory working order according to vehicle maintenance schedules.
  • Conduct daily A.M. meetings encompassing appointment assignments.
  • Assist the Transportation Coordinator in confirming with the Lead PCA those that will serve as appointment and route escorts.
  • Assist the Transportation Coordinator with assigning special runs.
  • Perform daily review of driver Pre-Trip documentation to ensure proper Pre-Trip inspections.
  • Assist the Transportation Coordinator by making real-time adjustments in vehicle, route, and appointment assignments based on vehicle maintenance, employee attendance, and participant cancellations.
  • Create accurate bus load-ups based on participant cancellations and appointment schedules.
  • Ensure timely distribution of medications to drivers when/if necessary.
  • Communicate immediately and manage all real-time unforeseen situations.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary, assigned or requested by Transportation Manager.
