About The Position

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking an Intern to support the maintenance, enhancement, and implementation of the freight planning program. This role will provide technical and/or administrative support to freight planning projects and programs. Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills are essential. Ideal candidates should attend school in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and be able to work at least 20 hours per week while attending school.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of GIS principles and ESRI GIS software
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Good communication, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills, with ability to listen to and follow instructions, coordinate with other team members, and present ideas
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program during employment
  • No work experience required

Responsibilities

  • Entering, updating, and maintaining planning data
  • Performing quality control checks on database inputs
  • Analyzing projects identified in Freight North Texas
  • Assisting with data collection tasks
  • Assisting staff and providing support for the Freight, Multimodal and High-Speed Rail subcommittee, including scheduling meetings, developing agendas, and preparing handouts
  • Responding to information inquiries
  • Creating and maintaining ESRI Geographic Information System (GIS) maps, database tables, and reports
  • Drafting written and email correspondence for supervisor review
