About The Position

The Transportation Financial Associate performs entry level accounting support duties under close supervision. The incumbent is responsible for performing routine posting and adjusting to the general ledger, processing claims and invoices, and reviewing transactions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or the equivalent
  • Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in accounting, bookkeeping, budget, or business experience
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical computations
  • Knowledge of the basic operation of office equipment such as a copier, fax machine, and personal computer
  • Ability to follow basic step by step instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with others

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of coursework from a regionally accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience through an established formula
  • Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a Transportation Financial Trainee

Responsibilities

  • Process claims and invoices, accurately calculate, and record amounts
  • Prepare bank deposits and/or checks
  • Perform routine posting and adjusting to the ledger
  • Identify and correct own routine posting errors
  • Classify/code according to a chart of accounts
  • Perform routine batch reports
  • Maintain accounting records and gather data from records maintained
  • Contact associates, administrators, and the general public to obtain information or discuss changes in documents
  • Perform duties that require only routine and specific operations that involve a few separate tasks or procedures
  • Provide financial support, work in general accounting, and payroll
  • Review and analyze federal and state regulations and local provisions regarding salary and benefit issues
  • Provide information and instruction regarding procedures and methods involved in processing payroll; interpret and explain rules and regulations involving payroll
  • Analyze and maintain annual and sick leave balances
  • Reconcile, prepare, and distribute all W-2 information, as well as any W-2 corrections as needed, in conjunction with the WV State Auditor's Office
  • Approve, track, enter, and request information regarding employee benefits management
