About The Position

As a Transportation Equipment Operator A with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), you will help to ensure that pavement markings are clear and winter roads stay safe and accessible. You will work with advanced equipment, perform important maintenance tasks, and support key operations across District 10. This position is perfect for someone who enjoys active work and takes pride in keeping communities moving. This position supports paint operations, snow removal, and general roadway maintenance by operating equipment and completing a range of laboring tasks. Within this role, you will help maintain safe travel conditions throughout the year.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • All permanent employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
  • All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
  • All positions require possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
  • All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
  • Employees may require additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate paint trucks, loaders, snow removal equipment, and other assigned machinery
  • Complete required pre-operation and post-operation inspections and document findings
  • Perform tasks such as cutting brush, cleaning culverts, repairing guiderails, and erecting signs
  • Assist with paint equipment repairs, monitor gauges, and help maintain paint program equipment
  • Store materials properly and clean up work areas to meet environmental guidelines
  • Support mechanics with equipment repairs and maintain accurate equipment records
