By joining our Concrete, Cement and Physical Properties as a Transportation Engineering Technologist III in Franklin County, you’ll have the opportunity to become a member of a team seeking to evaluate Kentucky's cementitious and concrete materials to provide cost-effective performance to the taxpaying public with nationally leading initiatives, while verifying the compliance to governing specifications, attending trainings, and networking.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, computer science, data science, geology, earth science, industrial technology, industrial drafting, design technology or construction technology. OR Graduate with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program.
  • Four years of engineering-related experience.
  • Possess a valid EIT certification issued by the Kentucky State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors OR Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree OR an associate degree in an engineering field OR High school OR High school
  • Must have four years of engineering-related experience with the first education option above; OR Must have seven years of engineering-related experience with the second education option above; OR Must have ten years of engineering-related experience in which case related technical or vocational training will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years with the third education option above; OR Must have eight years of bridge inspection experience under the supervision of a Qualified InspectionTeam Leader, plus successful completion of a Federal Highway Administration approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course with the fourth education option above.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate technical inspections of precast, prestressed, and concrete pipe material products and plants utilizing complex components for both in-state and out-of-state operations for engineering projects.
  • Perform laboratory evaluation of concrete and cementitious materials, including manual labor, for specification compliance, research, and maintaining laboratory accreditation.
  • Perform necessary calculations and analyze the results of tests performed on cement and concrete materials.
  • Attendance of meetings, workshops, and conferences to strengthen subject knowledge including out of state travel related to the performance of concrete and cement. This job will require some overnight travel to all statewide districts.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners (consultants, contractors, or district personnel) on specific specialized programs or functions within the division.
  • Report data from tests performed and enter that data into the division's materials information system notifying supervisor if results do not conform to specifications.
