About The Position

HDR is seeking a Transportation Engineering Intern/Co-Op with a focus on Traffic/Planning to support its Transportation Business Group. This role offers the opportunity to gain real-world experience on urban and roadway projects, connect with professionals through mentoring and young professional programs, and apply engineering techniques under the supervision of experienced staff. The intern will assist with tasks such as alignment and profile development, geometrics, drainage, and the creation of plans and construction estimates. HDR emphasizes a culture of employee ownership, inclusion, and making a positive impact on communities through transportation solutions.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
• Attention to detail
• Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Basic Microsoft Office skills
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Nice To Haves

• Prefer 2 years completed toward a Civil Engineering or Transportation Planning Degree with 3.0+ GPA
• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry (ArcGIS, Synchro, HCS, etc.)
• Working towards an Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
• Preference will be given to local candidates.

Responsibilities

• Gain real-world experience on exciting urban and rural roadway projects
• Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professional programs
• Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
• Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager such as alignment and profile, geometrics, drainage, development of plans and construction estimates/quantities.
• Perform other duties as needed.
