About The Position

This position involves engineering analysis, highway or structures design, traffic engineering, maintenance, construction, or traffic engineering. The role requires conferring with managers and supervisors on complex construction projects and assisting a Senior Resident Engineer on highly complex construction projects. It may also involve acting as a technical staff expert, representing the agency publicly and with other entities, consultants, and contractors. This position is eligible for a $4,000 hiring incentive.

Requirements

  • Principles and practices of civil engineering as applied to design, development, construction, and maintenance of the state highway system.
  • Federal and State statutes, agency standards, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to the area of assignment.
  • Safety practices and public relations practices; methods, procedures, and techniques utilized in management of assigned resources.
  • Work management and leadership.
  • Interpreting and analyzing a wide range of highly technical engineering data.
  • Oral and written communications; writing technical reports pertaining to assignments.
  • Interpersonal relations, as applied to contacts with subordinate personnel, other governmental agencies, contractors, consultants, and the public.
  • Develop and implement appropriate standards, procedures, and priorities related to the area of assignment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Arizona PE Licensure is required. A candidate who holds an active PE in another state will be required to meet registration requirements set forth by the Arizona Technical Board of Registration and attain an Arizona PE from the Board within 6 months of employment start date.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering and technical direction for the administration of more complex construction projects or assist senior residents on multiple highly complex construction contracts (design, construction, and maintenance of transportation projects).
  • Ensure work is performed that provides a functional, durable project that meets design intent at a reasonable cost.
  • Assist senior resident engineer with input on project scope, designs, and development.
  • Initiate procedures, monitoring project processes for contractor payment, quantity documentation (Davis development meetings and other meetings related to the ADOT state highway system), labor compliance, training requirements, and affirmative action.
  • Provide administrative management duties including personnel management, EPAS, discipline, hiring authority, and other administrative duties as required.
  • Coordinate construction activities with federal, state, local, and private entities to assure conflicts are minimized.
  • Initiate communication with all affected stakeholders on matters that affect them.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and supervision of subordinate personnel.
  • Assure compliance with all applicable plans, specifications, rules, requirements, and related contracted documents.
  • May operate a State vehicle in the course and scope of conducting State business.
  • Initiate and monitor training of subordinate personnel.
