About The Position

This position involves on-the-job training for parking control and traffic enforcement within Baltimore City. Employees will patrol City streets to enforce parking ordinances, direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic at assigned intersections, and issue citations for moving violations. This role does not involve supervisory duties. Employees work a rotating shift, including evenings and weekends, and may be subject to callback for emergencies. The work is performed in a vehicle or outdoors, exposing the employee to uncomfortable environmental and hazardous conditions such as inclement weather, traffic hazards, and potential verbal or physical abuse. The job requires moderate physical exertion, including prolonged walking and standing, and extended hand and arm movements.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit.
  • No provisionals on driver's license.
  • Must upload a copy of your valid driver's license with application at time of applying.
  • Knowledge of Maryland State Motor Vehicle laws, ordinances and traffic regulations.
  • Knowledge of City Street locations.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the general public and City employees from other agencies.
  • Ability to use a whistle and hand signals effectively.
  • Ability to actively observe vehicular and pedestrian traffic and respond quickly and effectively as needed.
  • Ability to interpret and explain regulations.
  • Ability to drive defensively.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Satisfactorily pass a fingerprint and background investigation conducted by the Baltimore City Police Department.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a Certificate of Appointment as a Special Enforcement Officer by the Police Commissioner of the City of Baltimore prior to hire.
