About The Position

The Transportation Driver is responsible for safely operating and transporting passengers in transit vehicles involving assigned routes and schedules, and/or on demand service. Approximately 10 hrs. a week

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 48 College credits or pass equivalency exam
  • 1+ years of relevant experience working with children and/or youth in an educational, recreational, or youth development setting
  • 1 year of driving experience with a Class C license
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Familiarity with California Motor Vehicle Code and traffic regulations.
  • Proficiency in operating 7-passenger vans, reading maps, and adhering to schedules
  • Ability to handle youth passengers and interact professionally with parents and school administrators
  • Capable of maintaining accurate records and completing required reports
  • Ability to use a two-way radio and establish cooperative working relationships
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with youth, families, and staff
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple activities, maintain required documentation, and follow program schedules
  • Proficiency in using basic office technology and program-related tools or systems (e.g., email, attendance tracking systems, learning platforms)
  • Ability to understand and comply with organizational policies, safety procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local laws, including child safety and mandated reporting requirements
  • California Driver's License
  • Relevant certifications or training CPR/First Aid, Mandated Reporter training

  • Experience working with children and/or youth in an educational, recreational, or youth development setting
  • Experience working in a structured, youth-serving environment that requires adherence to policies, safety standards, and program guidelines
  • Ability to effectively engage with youth, families, and staff in a fast-paced, interactive setting

Responsibilities

  • Safely transports passengers in vans and related vehicles involving assigned routes and schedules and/or on demand service
  • Ensure the constant safety and well-being of all passengers during transportation
  • Practice safe driving techniques and follow passenger safety procedures
  • Operates a two-way radio to maintain communication with the BGCW staff
  • Obey traffic laws and follow division/department operating practices and procedures
  • Maintain the interior and exterior of the assigned vehicle
  • Conducts vehicle inspection before, during, and after to ensure safe vehicle condition
  • Promptly reports mechanical problems and repair needs and fuels and cleans vehicle(s)
  • Keeps records and prepares detailed reports as required
  • Prepares accident and incident reports
  • Follow all applicable safety rules and regulations
  • Practice effective and appropriate customer relations and complaint processing
