Transportation & Dispatch Supervisor
About The Position
The Supervisor of Transportation & Dispatch Operations is responsible for leading and optimizing all driver and dispatch functions across over-the-road (OTR) and local delivery operations. This role serves as the central hub for transportation execution—overseeing driver performance, dispatch coordination, route planning, and regulatory compliance. This position ensures the safe, timely, and cost-effective movement of raw materials and finished goods while aligning closely with production, warehouse, and supply chain teams. The role requires both hands-on dispatch oversight and strategic leadership of drivers and fleet operations, ensuring seamless logistics performance and high customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in transportation, dispatching, or fleet management
- Prior experience managing drivers or transportation teams
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements
- Proficiency in transportation/dispatch software and Microsoft Office
Nice To Haves
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field preferred
- Experience with route optimization tools, GPS tracking, and telematics systems
- Certification in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., APICS, CSCMP)
- Experience managing both OTR and local delivery operations
- Familiarity with manufacturing and inventory flow processes
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills
Responsibilities
- Lead & Supervise Drivers: Supervise, coach, and develop a team of OTR and local drivers to ensure safety, performance, and engagement
- Oversee Dispatch Operations: Direct daily dispatch activities including scheduling, routing, and load assignments to meet production and delivery timelines
- Optimize Routes & Schedules: Develop efficient routing strategies to reduce costs, improve delivery times, and maximize fleet utilization
- Ensure Compliance: Maintain full compliance with DOT regulations, safety standards, and company policies
- Act as Communication Hub: Serve as the primary point of contact between drivers, warehouse, production, and leadership to ensure real-time coordination and issue resolution
- Monitor Fleet & Maintenance: Coordinate vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, and repairs to minimize downtime
- Analyze Performance Data: Track KPIs (on-time delivery, cost per mile, driver performance, etc.) and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain Documentation: Ensure accurate records of driver logs, vehicle usage, safety incidents, and compliance documentation
- Handle Real-Time Problem Solving: Quickly adapt to changing priorities, delays, and unexpected logistical challenges
