About The Position

RK&K is seeking a Transportation Design Intern to join their Highways team in their Fairfax, VA office. This internship is designed to provide on-the-job training and collaboration with experienced transportation engineering professionals. Interns will gain experience using MicroStation CADD and related software, learning the process of developing designs for linear transportation projects such as new roadways, extensions, pedestrian/bike facilities, traffic calming, and intersection safety improvements. The role also offers exposure to structures, hydraulics, geotechnical, and environmental groups, with opportunities to work on design challenges both in the office and in the field.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Self-motivated with a strong attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

• Participation in professional societies (ASCE, ASHE, etc.)
• Applicable prior intern (Co-Op) experience
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation and/or GIS

Responsibilities

• Work on projects throughout the Southeast region including field data collection, design of roadway, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, maintenance of traffic / construction work zones, corridor planning, cost estimating, structures and hydraulics and collaborating with team members to develop creative solutions to complex challenges.
