About The Position

Basis Partners’ Design Engineers play an important role in our community’s quality of life and safety by being a part of a design team responsible for applying broad knowledge of principles, practices, and applied technical expertise for engineering project development, design, and modeling of transportation-related project deliverables. Basis Partners’ Design Engineers work under a Senior Design Engineer (Design Lead) in their engineering focus discipline. The Design Engineer serves a pivotal role in ensuring quality design and project deliverables that align with an exceptional client experience and the firm’s high standards of quality and innovation that differentiates Basis Partners from all other firms. Requirements

  • 2-6 years of relevant Transportation Design experience
  • B.S. Civil Engineering Degree
  • P.E. licensure or EI with ability to obtain PE license
  • Required to have and maintain a valid driver’s license, appropriate auto insurance coverage (per Basis Vehicle Policy) and an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in project kick off meetings to assist with the planning and scoping of projects.
  • Researching and understanding the scope and standards that govern projects.
  • Collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the project site, prior studies, surveys, as-built drawings, historical data, etc. as inputs into project development, design, and construction.
  • Begin initial design through both calculations and CADD layouts.
  • Creating conceptual designs and advancing a selected alternative to a final design level.
  • Conducting analyses to develop and support designs and submittums.
  • Evaluating the design against industry standards, regulations, and client expectations.
  • Continually revising the design through milestone meetings (including submittal reviews and feedback), changes in scope or design changes, feasibility analyses, cost constraints, client preferences, and other relevant factors.
  • Drafting project plans and specifications (including plan sheets, special provisions, and bid documents).
  • Creating written narratives/project reports.
  • Calculating quantities for cost estimating and bidding purposes.
  • Identifying and documenting required permits.
  • Participating in quality reviews and revisions to ensure compliance with internal and client quality standards.
  • Assisting the Design Lead by providing detailed information such as photos, sketches, exhibits, drawings, calculations, measurements, or other necessary information.
  • Tracking and documenting design revisions, design calculations, and other important changes throughout the project.
  • Maintaining well-organized internal documents in project folders for easy access and retrieval.
  • Identifying and addressing constructability issues.
  • Answering engineering design-related questions throughout construction.
  • Interacting with colleagues, clients, contractors, and the public in a professional manner.
  • Collaborating with internal peers to deliver high-quality deliverables with consistency in appearance, detail, ingenuity, and content.
  • Wearing proper personal protection equipment (PPE) while on project sites.
  • Reporting any unsafe conditions to your manager or any member of management.
  • Actively supporting our safety culture and ensuring integration of quality in relevant processes.
  • Continuously identifying, anticipating, and preventing safety, health, and hazard concerns by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions.
  • Performing tasks outside of typical transportation design.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Supporting, adhering, and contributing to Basis Partners’ business and team practices and policies including but not limited to those found in the Employee Handbook.
  • Maintaining required certification and/or licensure.
  • Attending relevant training.
  • Demonstrating the application of skills learned.
  • Working with your direct supervisor or manager to determine developmental needs related to your personal development and Basis Partners’ goals and objectives.
