About The Position

WSP USA hosts hundreds of interns across the United States to gain hands-on, meaningful work experience to enhance their education and professional aptitude. Our interns gain exposure to real projects while working side by side with senior staff. Through our Developing Professionals Network, interns gain mentorship, networking opportunities and lifelong career connections. Our Transportation Planning Team is seeking a Full-Time Transportation Data Analyst Intern to work out of our Seattle, WA office. The following locations will also be considered: Baltimore, MD; Redmond, WA. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program. This internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program. As a summer intern, you have the opportunity to participate in our 12-week program scheduled to start on May 18, 2026. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, or related, Undergraduate program.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in Data Analysis in Transportation, or related, field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship

Nice To Haves

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, or related, Masters or PhD program.
  • Experience using Synthetic and real data sources
  • Experience applying Python, R, and GIS, with expertise in working with large-scale datasets.
  • Practice in Statistical Modeling, Machine learning, Travel Demand Modeling, Geospatial Analysis & Visualization, Safety & Equity Assessment, Dashboard Development, Automation.
  • Prior internship applying data analytics strategies to transportation applications and active leadership involvement on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, assist with sourcing, collecting, compiling, and analyzing structured and unstructured data from a variety of travel and transportation sources, financial reports, computer-generated reports, and other matrices and disparate sources.
  • Assist with performing transportation related professional data scientist work with identifying the data-analytics problems, data anomalies that offer the greatest opportunities to the assigned task.
  • Under general supervision, assist with preparing transportation applications using data, visualizations, and reports summarizing research and specifications with findings and conclusions; generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using dashboards, tables, charts, calculations, and illustrations.
  • Apply Statistical and Machine Learning methods to specific transportation and safety analytics problems and data.
  • Ensure data quality throughout all stages of acquisition and processing, including such areas as data sourcing/collection, ground truth generation, normalization, transformation, cleaning, validating, and cross-lingual alignment/mapping, etc.
  • Under general supervision, assist with assigned aspects of the design, development, evaluation, and release of highly innovative models that elevate the customer experience and track impact over time.
