About The Position

The successful candidate will act as a technical specialist within the District 12 Construction Office. District 12 continuously delivers a construction program that averages over $270M per year, with projects that have a wide range of complexities in both rural and urban environments. Requirements

  • 24 mos. trg. or 24 mos. exp. in construction management or construction engineering technology & related safety practices
  • 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in supervisory principles & techniques
  • 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in reading survey &/or construction plans
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans and contract documents.
  • Strong knowledge of ODOT Specifications.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills are essential for interacting and building relationships with various team members, project stakeholders, public officials, contractors, and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Manages multiple, complex construction projects (e.g., new location, new alignment, multi-lane &/or bi-directional reconstruction & major structures) under the general supervision of a registered professional engineer.
  • Travels and inspects existing simple & standard projects (e.g., guardrail, two-lane resurfacing, striping, bridge overlays, culvert replacements) to ensure contractor compliance to plans, notes, & guidelines.
  • Record project records in various ODOT systems.
  • Work closely with Planning, Design and Maintenance Departments to address issues and future project considerations.
  • Reviews design of all necessary changes to project(s) & ensures construction methods for all aspects of project(s) will achieve plan & specification intent.
  • Perform constructability plan reviews.
  • Tracks project submittals from contractors.
  • Performs calculations (e.g., reviews cost analysis, force accounts, & reviews critical path management progress schedules).
  • Performs materials testing assignments (e.g., durability of specific mixes for bituminous concrete, evaluations of newly marketed construction materials).
  • Utilize multiple computer software programs such as GoFormz, Mobile Inspector, AASHTOWare Project (AWP), etc. to manage construction projects.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions.
  • Assist the Contractor Compliance Officers in completing required forms.
  • Performs project finalization for projects.
  • Manage in-house and consultant inspection staff.
  • Act as a mentor for upcoming interns.
