About The Position

As a Transportation Construction Manager 1 with the Department of Transportation, you will help oversee construction projects that make a visible difference in our District. This role provides opportunities to coordinate work, support contractors and inspectors, and keep projects moving safely and efficiently. You will grow your engineering and management skills while supporting critical transportation improvements. Step into a role that combines leadership, problem solving, and public service. This role focuses on supervising construction activities, reviewing project work, and ensuring projects meet standards, plans, and safety expectations. It involves guiding inspection efforts, coordinating with partners, and supporting field decisions throughout each project.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Four years of experience in construction inspection, including one year in a supervisory capacity; and graduation from high school or equivalent certification of formal training.
  • Completion of a training program in construction inspection sanctioned by the using agency may be substituted for high school graduation.
  • An Associate Degree in an engineering or closely related technology may be substituted for one year of the required non-supervisory experience; or Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
  • Possession of a Class C non-commercial driver's license.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Submission of criminal history reports will be required for a conditional offer of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction work and confirm compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements
  • Assist with resolving construction issues and reviewing plans for constructability and accuracy
  • Supervise inspection of materials and workmanship to ensure they meet required standards
  • Work with municipalities, utilities, contractors, and other groups to address project concerns
  • Prepare reports, work orders, estimates, and records to track project progress and compliance
  • Assign tasks, review performance, and support training and development of staff
