About The Position

ATCS's Construction Services group is expanding in South Carolina and is seeking talented individuals with a strong background in SC construction management and inspection that have or are able to obtain necessary SCDOT certifications. This role is open to inspectors of all experience levels, from seasoned professionals to those just starting their careers. The position involves monitoring contractor work to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects. Inspectors will ensure contractor compliance through review and enforcement of plans and contract documents, monitor and inspect field work, and prepare thorough project documentation. Responsibilities include computing daily pay quantities, preparing field adjustment estimates, informing project management of issues, and contributing feedback for contractor evaluations. Inspectors will also conduct materials tests, ensure work zone and safety requirements are met, and accurately document utility work through daily reports.

Requirements

Minimum of two (2) years' experience as an Inspector.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Construction experience required.
General knowledge of surveying methods, equipment and material used in highway construction.
Working knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
Basic computer skills including use of email, internet, Microsoft office programs and use of iPad.
Valid driver's license.
Good written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Associates degree in civil engineering technology or similar focus preferred.
SCDOT material testing and sampling certifications is preferred.
Specific certification requirements: Concrete (ACI) and SCDOT Level I and II, Asphalt Roadway, Earthwork and Base Course, Course Aggregate Nuclear Gauge (APNGA), Erosion & Sediment Control (CEPSCI), Work Zone Traffic Control (WZTC).

Responsibilities

Monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects of moderate to considerable complexity.
Monitor and inspect roadway, structure and bridge, and maintenance construction projects of routine to moderate complexity.
Ensure contractor compliance through review, interpretation and enforcement of plans and contract documents, monitoring and inspecting field work efficiently and in a timely manner.
Preparation of thorough, accurate project documentation.
Compute daily pay quantities and prepare field adjustment estimates.
Inform project management of issues that arise in the field and assist in resolution as directed.
Contribute feedback to Project Inspector for evaluations for all prime contractors and agreed-upon subcontractors.
Conduct materials tests to assure all materials meet requirements set forth in the Materials Manual of Instructions.
Ensure work zones and other safety requirements and environmental permit requirements are met.
Ensure that utility work is documented accurately through daily reports.
