About The Position

Join the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a Transportation Construction Inspector and support projects that keep our communities moving! You will help maintain consistent testing and documentation practices that support transportation projects across the district.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ; or Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Check materials at production plants to verify compliance with specifications and quality control requirements
  • Review testing procedures to make sure methods align with regulatory organizations’ standards
  • Observe material shipments and confirm that weigh slips and delivered materials are correct
  • Record sampling techniques accurately and report issues to supervisors as needed
  • Evaluate supplier testing practices including gradation, absorption, air content, and other standard tests
  • Enter sampling and testing information into a database and maintain required documentation systems
