By joining our Equipment Section as a Transportation Auto Truck Technician I in Hardin County, you’ll have the opportunity to Work on/with complex equipment repairs and builds for the district equipment fleet to keep roads and bridges safe for the traveling public.

Requirements

  • Working in a repair or garage environment.
  • Using hand tools and mechanical equipment safely and effectively.
  • Performing routine maintenance and basic mechanical repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Assisting with troubleshooting and diagnosing common mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Following established repair procedures, documenting work performed, and supporting repair order completion.
  • High school graduate.
  • Must have two years of automotive/equipment/truck repair technical experience.
  • Vocational or technical school training in automotive/truck repair or a related area will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • Employees in this job classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority within six months of employment in the job classification, documentation that he or she possesses a valid Class A commercial driver's license.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repair of automotive, medium duty, and heavy (off road) equipment.
  • Support daily operations of the KYTC Equipment Garage, including opening and completing repair orders.
  • Maintain repair facility organization, provide equipment care, and ensure a safe and clean work environment.
  • Assist parts staff with inventory tasks such as stocking, labeling, and tracking parts usage.
  • Operate a variety of hand tools and shop equipment including lifts, hoists, torches, welders, pneumatic tools, presses, and lathes.
