About The Position

The Transportation Assistant is responsible for driving the facility vehicle to transport residents, staff and volunteers to desired destinations. This role involves ensuring resident safety and comfort during transport, maintaining the vehicle, and adhering to all safety and security guidelines, particularly for residents in the Special Care Unit. Effective communication with residents, their families, and other personnel is crucial, as is providing care and services with appropriate dementia care protocols.

Requirements

Six (6) months or more of related experience.
Must possess basic computer skills.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must obtain and maintain mandatory, state/federal requirements and certifications for practice or occupation.
Must be able to read, write, understand and speak the English language.
Must be able to work with residents, community staff, and physician office personnel.
Must be able to adhere to all terms and conditions set forth in the United Church Homes Employee Handbook.

Previous commercial drivers experience

Responsibilities

Drive the facility vehicle to transport residents, staff, and volunteers to desired destinations.
Transport residents to doctor’s appointments and other activities.
Run errands or perform other related activities as requested.
Conduct safety checklist according to policy.
Maintain vehicles in clean condition.
Report observations of structural, equipment, and furniture defects/malfunctioning to appropriate personnel.
Maintain confidentiality of necessary information.
Handle unusual occurrences calmly and logically to maintain continuity of business and duties.
Follow all appropriate safety and security guidelines, procedures, and protocols for residents in the Special Care Unit.
Maintain appropriate, effective communication with residents, and with residents' family or other significant relationships.
Provide all care, treatment, and services with appropriate dementia care protocols.
Perform all other duties as assigned or directed.
