About The Position

The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for executing Capitol Food Company's daily transportation operations by coordinating inbound and outbound freight while ensuring timely, accurate, and cost-effective movement of goods. This role serves as the transportation control tower for the organization, responsible for booking freight, confirming appointments, monitoring shipment status, proactively communicating transportation updates, and resolving delivery issues before they impact operations or customers. The Logistics Coordinator is the primary point of contact for carriers, warehouses, vendors, Customer Service, Sales, Procurement, and Operations to ensure shipments move efficiently while maintaining exceptional service levels.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in logistics coordination, transportation, freight operations, or supply chain.
  • Experience scheduling FTL, LTL, expedited, parcel, and brokered freight.
  • Experience working directly with carriers, freight brokers, warehouses, and vendors.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage numerous active shipments simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, follow-up, and relationship management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize competing transportation demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Office, and transportation portals

  • TMS experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule inbound and outbound shipments (FTL, LTL, Sprinter, Parcel, etc.) across multiple warehouse locations nationwide.
  • Book freight with approved carriers and brokers while ensuring requested pickup and delivery dates are met.
  • Secure carrier capacity to support daily shipping requirements while balancing service and transportation costs.
  • Confirm all pickup appointments, delivery appointments, and carrier acceptance prior to shipment.
  • Monitor all active shipments from pickup through final delivery.
  • Proactively communicate shipment status, delays, service interruptions, appointment changes, and delivery exceptions before they impact internal teams or customers.
  • Coordinate expedited shipments and respond to urgent and last-minute transportation requests.
  • Serve as the primary transportation contact for carriers, warehouses, vendors, and internal departments throughout the shipment lifecycle.
  • Review Bills of Lading (BOLs), Proofs of Delivery (PODs), and shipping documentation for accuracy.
  • Document and resolve shortages, damages, overages, missing seals, refused deliveries, and other transportation discrepancies.
  • Investigate transportation service failures, coordinate freight claims, and process carrier chargebacks when applicable.
  • Maintain complete and accurate transportation documentation and shipment records.
  • Support carrier performance reviews and identify opportunities to improve on-time delivery, reduce freight costs, and improve transportation efficiency.
  • Partner with Warehouse, Operations, Sales, Customer Service, and Procurement to prevent transportation and supply chain disruptions.
  • Provide proactive communication regarding shipment activity, transportation risks, and delivery performance.
  • Support reporting related to inbound freight, carrier performance, transportation costs, and service metrics.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
