Transportation Aide - Special Education
About The Position
The Clark County School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Transportation Aide to join their Special Education team. This role is crucial in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students with special needs to and from school and other related activities. The Transportation Aide will work under the direct supervision of a School Bus Driver and will be responsible for assisting students with their individual needs during the transportation process. The specific yard assignment will be determined by the needs of the Transportation department at the time of hire, with potential placements at Arville, Cheyenne, Northwest, Russell, or Wallace yards.
Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver's license or state-issued identification card.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross compliant). Online courses are not accepted. BLS certifications alone are insufficient.
- Ability to assist students with physical needs, including lifting and securing.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to work with students with special needs.
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety regulations.
- Must be able to work effectively as part of a team.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs.
- Experience in a transportation or school support role.
Responsibilities
- Assist students with special needs during boarding and deboarding the school bus.
- Ensure students are safely secured in their seats or with appropriate adaptive equipment.
- Provide direct supervision and assistance to students throughout the bus route.
- Communicate effectively with the School Bus Driver regarding student behavior and needs.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and orderly environment on the bus.
- Report any incidents or concerns to the School Bus Driver and/or supervisor promptly.
- Provide basic care and support to students as needed, following established protocols.
- Collaborate with school staff and parents to ensure a smooth transportation experience for students.
