About The Position

The Transport Driver will provide an effective and efficient transport service, delivering and collecting items such as laboratory specimens, post, medical records, lab stores, and sterile supplies. The role requires driving vehicles carefully with consideration for passengers, equipment, the vehicle, and other road users, while adhering to Road Traffic Legislation and maintaining journey records. The position is with QE Facilities (QEF), a wholly owned subsidiary company of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust (GHNT), providing non-clinical services to NHS organizations.

Requirements

  • Must cover a minimum of 3 years employment or education references.
  • Provide address, telephone number, and work email address of current/previous line managers covering 3 years employment or education references.
  • If there are gaps in employment, character references will be required.
  • Must have a valid driving license.
  • Must be able to comply with Road Traffic Legislation.
  • Must be able to undertake daily vehicle checks.
  • Must be able to complete daily VDI reports.
  • Must be able to report defects and deficiencies.
  • Must be able to maintain vehicle and equipment in accordance with infection control policy.
  • Must be able to remove and replace soiled items and equipment.
  • Must ensure a vehicle accident pack is kept on board.
  • Must be able to report vehicle damage.
  • Must be responsible for vehicle upkeep, cleanliness, and maintenance.
  • Must ensure all safety checks are carried out.
  • Must be able to operate communication systems.
  • Must participate in the QEF driver rota.
  • Must undertake all required training, including mandatory training.
  • Must wear supplied Personal Protective Equipment (Uniform etc.) to the required standard.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake driving duties to the required standard, driving vehicles carefully with every consideration being given to the passenger, any equipment, the vehicle itself, other road users and to comply with Road Traffic Legislation.
  • Adhere to speed limits in all cases, ensuring safe driving and passenger comfort.
  • Transport all equipment/specimens in a safe and careful manner.
  • Plan journeys considering routes to ensure an efficient and effective service.
  • Accommodate longer distance driving, potentially with overnight stays, in line with driving regulations.
  • Meet deadlines for assisted travel, such as ferries.
  • Undertake daily vehicle checks to ensure roadworthiness, including oil, water, fuel, tyre pressure and tread condition, lights, and warning devices.
  • Complete a daily VDI report for the vehicle or ensure a crew member does so before commencing a shift.
  • Report defects and deficiencies of the vehicle and equipment.
  • Replace all items of vehicle inventory used in accordance with Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain the vehicle and equipment in accordance with the organization’s infection control policy.
  • Remove and replace soiled items and equipment to maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Ensure a vehicle accident pack is kept on board the vehicle at all times.
  • Report any vehicle damage in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  • Be responsible for vehicle upkeep, cleanliness, and maintenance.
  • Ensure all safety checks are carried out.
  • Operate any communication system supplied/fitted/operated by the Company in accordance with its Policies and Procedures.
  • Participate in the QEF driver rota covering shifts and duties as required/directed.
  • Undertake all training as required by the Company, to include mandatory training.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (Uniform etc.) as supplied by the Company, keeping it clean and tidy and worn to the required standard.
