Position Summary: The Transmission System Planning Co-op will support the development and analysis of electric transmission system models and assist in evaluating system performance under various operating conditions. This role is designed for students or recent graduates with foundational knowledge in power systems and electrical engineering who are eager to gain hands-on experience in utility planning, operations support, and reliability studies.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a focus on Electric Power Systems.
Basic understanding of power system concepts including modeling, load flow, and symmetrical components.
Exposure to power system analysis tools such as PSSE, ASPEN, PSCAD, or similar software is a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Team-oriented with effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
Eagerness to learn and take initiative in a technical environment.
Coursework or project experience related to transmission planning, power system analysis, or electrical design preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist in building and maintaining transmission system models used for planning studies.
Collect and review forecasted load data for inclusion in system models.
Help gather and validate system parameters such as equipment ratings, impedances, protection settings, and network topology.
Support transmission system impact studies across Eversource’s service territories.
Contribute to the development of study scopes and documentation under guidance.
Apply planning standards and regulatory criteria (e.g., NERC, NPCC, ISO-NE) in study work.
Participate in testing solution alternatives to address identified system issues.
Assist in performing steady-state, stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transient (EMT) analyses.
Support System Operations via researching disturbance events and other analyses.
Help automate study processes using transmission analysis tools.
Work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams.
Interface with internal departments and external entities such as ISO-NE.
Support documentation of study results and preparation of technical reports.
Contribute to the development of training materials and presentations.
