This posting is for multiple Operation Centers, and applicants will be able to select their preferred and second choice work locations. Locations are subject to change based on business need. The role involves assisting in and performing basic operations for maintaining substation sites, structures, and equipment in operating condition, assisting in assigned phases of construction work, handling materials and parts, and performing other related work under direct supervision.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or applicable equivalent (job training or study).
  • Normally, two years or more of Company experience in substation work or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with tools, materials, and equipment used in substation work.
  • Must qualify for an automobile operator's license.
  • Ability to successfully complete the Construction and Skilled Trade (CAST-R) Testing.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL).
  • Body weight limit of 285 lbs. or less due to OSHA regulations.
  • Must reside within 30 miles of the reporting location.
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in the general handling of substation materials and equipment, including loading trucks, unloading and placing materials at work sites, moving heavy equipment, and loading materials for return to the storeroom.
  • Assist in operations for maintaining substation electrical apparatus and associated mechanisms, including dismantling, reassembling, repairing, or replacing equipment units.
  • Engage in basic operations for maintaining substation grounds and structures, such as cutting grass and weeds, smoothing surfaces, filling holes, repairing fencing, opening drains, replacing glass, scraping and repainting surfaces, and assisting in minor structure repairs.
  • Help substation mechanics with more involved operations on electrical equipment and supervisory control installations by attending to tool and material needs or participating in basic operations as directed.
  • Assist in emergency work and work on live conductors, as well as assigned substation construction work.
  • Perform a variety of related operations such as driving a truck, handling portable substations, cleaning substation equipment and grounds, changing and filtering oil, and similar tasks.
  • Maintain work equipment and areas in a clean, orderly condition.
  • Continuously observe company safety rules and practices, check safety equipment, attend safety meetings, participate in artificial respiration practice, and become familiar with safety manuals, rules, and special procedures.
  • Comply with General Switching Instructions and perform other related work as assigned.
