Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing advance engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. This role involves performing advanced engineering work activities and projects, requiring the application of engineering knowledge for the safe, effective, efficient, and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. The selected candidate will be expected to partake in competitive transmission windows, congestion analysis for generation acquisition, and conduct area-wide studies to assess necessary system improvements to address reliability deficiencies. In a Regional Transmission Planning role, the candidate will also have an opportunity to learn about other disciplines and the 4 RTOs in which AEP operates. The position requires investigative efforts into problem areas, communicating findings to the team and management to guide policy and financial decisions, and following company policies, practices, standards, and rules, as well as external agency regulations. It also involves providing training and guidance to lower-level employees and elevating issues to higher-level employees/leaders as appropriate. The role demands strong detail orientation and meticulous note-taking for defending projects. It requires resolving and initiating solutions to routine problems, identifying problems beyond the normal routine, and demonstrating the ability and desire to seek out opportunities and embrace new ideas. The ideal candidate must be comfortable communicating with teams of other disciplines, developing presentations for stakeholders, and with time and experience, communicating effectively with peers and conducting clear, concise presentations. As an active team member, the candidate will network with peers, identify key stakeholders, use informal networks, resolve conflict, and build consensus. Decisions are made subject to review within established standards, policies, and procedures, affecting the team's work, with an awareness of risks. The candidate must extrapolate beyond known facts to reach logical conclusions and communicate study scenarios and advice based on results to management. Business awareness includes understanding AEP's organizational structure, the role of their unit, the budgeting and approval process, proficiency in economic analysis techniques, and developing an understanding of utility regulation and financing.
