As a Transmission Line Engineer in Engineering Services, you’ll provide solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- 5+ years of transmission line engineering experience in the electric utility industry.
- P.E. license or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Proficiency in transmission line design, including: Develop plan and profile drawings. Structure loading and analysis for wood, steel, and concrete poles/towers. Sag-tension calculations and conductor clearance analysis. Foundation design for transmission structures. Route selection and environmental considerations.
- Knowledge of permitting procedures, right-of-way, property lines, and easements.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as NESC, ASCE, IEEE, AISC, ACI, ASTM, and RUS specifications.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Capable of supervising and training new team members.
- Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, and SAG10 software.
- Experience with structural analysis tools such as LPile, and RISA 3D / RISA Foundation.
Nice To Haves
- Experience designing transmission lines ranging from 69kV to 500kV, along with proficiency or working knowledge of power line design software related to Power Line Systems (PLS) tools.
- Experience with renewable energy integration and grid modernization projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate, and develop transmission line designs for greenfield and brownfield projects. This includes PLS-CADD modeling, structural analysis, development of design criteria, wire selection, etc.
- Assist with proposal development and serve as the Technical Lead for transmission line projects.
- Perform QA reviews and provide mentorship to less experienced engineers and designers.
- Estimate labor, material, and construction costs for transmission line projects.
- Conduct field inspections, route evaluations, and provide construction support.
- Create construction bid documents, review contracts, specifications, bids, and offer recommendations.
