About The Position

Toth & Associates, Inc. (TOTH) has an opening for a Transmission Engineer III/IV. As a Transmission Engineer III/IV, you will independently perform the design, analysis, and implementation of transmission line projects to ensure safe and reliable power delivery. You will apply advanced engineering principles to develop conceptual, preliminary, and final designs while coordinating with project teams, clients, and contractors. In this role, you will take increasing ownership of project deliverables, provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers, and contribute to project planning and execution. Working under the general direction of a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer, you will lead portions of projects, support quality initiatives, and help develop engineering best practices across the organization.

Requirements

  • BSCE, BSME, or BSEE from an ABET-accredited engineering program required.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
  • 3–6 years of progressive transmission line design experience.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing transmission design software, including PLS-CADD and related applications.
  • Working knowledge of transmission engineering principles, structural analysis, NESC requirements, and utility design standards.
  • Ability to independently perform engineering calculations and develop complete design packages.
  • Strong communication, organization, and project coordination skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with project teams and mentor junior staff.
  • Actively pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Experience designing medium and high-voltage substation systems for utility or industrial clients.
  • Working knowledge of ANSI, IEEE, NEMA, and NESC (ANSI C2) standards related to substation design.
  • Experience in ground grid design using SES-CDEGS software.
  • Experience reviewing and mentoring junior engineering staff.

Responsibilities

  • Independently design high-voltage transmission lines, poles, and related structures while performing structural, electrical, and line performance analyses.
  • Utilize PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, AutoCAD, and other engineering software to develop detailed transmission line models and construction designs.
  • Prepare design calculations, engineering reports, construction packages, foundation recommendations, and material specifications.
  • Develop and review staking sheets, plan and profile drawings, structure loading trees, stringing charts, and bills of materials.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, NESC requirements, client standards, and industry best practices.
  • Serve as the engineer responsible for specific project tasks, schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables.
  • Coordinate with survey, environmental, geotechnical, and construction personnel to support project execution.
  • Perform quality control reviews of engineering drawings, calculations, and design packages.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, respond to field questions, and assist with resolving technical issues.
  • Interface directly with clients, contractors, utilities, and project stakeholders to communicate design solutions and project progress.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Engineer I and II employees, supporting training and professional development efforts.
  • Assist Project Engineers and Senior Project Engineers in developing project scopes, schedules, proposals, and client relationships.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design processes, efficiency, and technical standards within the transmission engineering group.
