The Transmission Engineer performs electrical engineering duties for the T&D Engineering Department of the Grand River Dam Authority as assigned by the Sr. Manager, T&D Engineering. This role involves developing, reviewing, and directing engineering designs for transmission systems, including PLS-CADD modeling, plan and profile diagrams, detail drawings, and material lists. The position also includes producing estimates, schedules, and execution plans, drafting scopes of work for contractors, and developing data sheets and specifications for equipment. The engineer supports the bidding process, selects equipment vendors, and holds project responsibility for technical issues, engineering information, reporting, and modeling related to the transmission system. This includes checkout of new facilities, engineering support to technicians, and modifications to improve existing high voltage lines. The role requires being a subject matter expert in various engineering tasks, preparing project management documentation, and developing positive relationships with colleagues, industry contacts, and customers. It also involves performing engineering analysis, calculations, designs, and studies for maintaining, constructing, and operating high voltage transmission line facilities, as well as coordinating and verifying the work of outside contractors and monitoring project progress and payments. After-hours work may be required under system emergency or storm conditions.
