About The Position

Be part of a Power Delivery team responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining electrical equipment within Grant County PUD’s transmission and distribution facilities. This position is responsible for providing knowledge and expertise related to transmission, distribution, substations, and SCADA automation and other supporting facilities within Grant County PUD’s Power Delivery Department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field OR equivalent relevant experience (4 years in lieu of degree)
  • Engineer IV: 6+ years of experience
  • Engineer V: 10+ years of experience
  • Understanding and knowledge of transmission components and their functions, ranging from understanding and knowledge at Engineer IV to subject matter expert at Engineer V.
  • Understanding of transmission design principles and practices for major transmission equipment, transmission lines, and distribution feeder configurations, ranging from firm understanding at Engineer IV to expert understanding at Engineer V.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and modify one-line diagrams, transmission plan and elevation drawings, transmission system plan and elevation drawings, and, where applicable, AC & DC schematics.
  • Ability to generate, interpret, review, and revise existing/new drawings.
  • Planning, organizational, and project management skills, ranging from strong at Engineer IV to expert at Engineer V.
  • Self-motivator who is equally effective working independently or who can work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks, as appropriate to level.
  • Troubleshooting, maintenance experience, and optimization techniques related to substations, transmission, and distribution systems, ranging from advanced at Engineer IV to expert at Engineer V.
  • Knowledge related to regulatory requirements that include FERC/NERC Standards, with vast knowledge at Engineer IV and Engineer V.
  • Technical writing and ability to draft reports associated with performance of critical equipment and their impacts to operations and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of NERC standards and regulatory compliances
  • Knowledge of concepts, principles, theories, and methods surrounding electrical engineering industry standards and best practices (NEC, IEEE, NFPA, etc)
  • Ability to perform work in the field and work in construction environments.
  • Skill in problem-solving and thinking critically
  • Written and oral interpersonal communication; workflow and time management
  • Utilizing MS office products; specialized software, tools, and applications

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • A Washington State Engineering in Training Professional Engineer (PE)

Responsibilities

  • Support, lead, or direct capital execution of projects as it relates to transmission design, materials, and equipment.
  • Participate in, lead, or direct processes focusing on operations and engineering practices that drive strong reliability and performance.
  • Research, design, and support the implementation of new and upgraded equipment throughout the transmission system, with guidance appropriate to level.
  • Coordinate with different stakeholders and provide input to transmission project plans.
  • Collaborate with responsible groups and facilitate smooth transition of the design to implementation.
  • Develop design requirements relating to the application of equipment in transmission systems.
  • Develop technical specification and standards for ordering equipment and parts, and utilize new technology and best practices during design.
  • Use PLS-CADD or comparable engineering design tools to model and analyze designs of basic, intermediate, or advanced complexity, as appropriate for level.
  • Provide technical expertise and/or team leadership as needed.
  • Engage with manufacturers and suppliers, including plant/factory visits and project site visits, and represent the Transmission Engineering department on new equipment and vendor evaluations.
  • Engage in industry forums and events, including IEEE, SEE, CIGRE, etc.
  • Facilitate transmission equipment specification and drawings review; coordinate with manufacturers and vendors to ensure adherence to company requirements.
  • Review existing materials, components, and design standards for process improvements, cost savings, etc.
  • Perform independent and/or collaborative research to find innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions to operational problems, as appropriate for level.
  • Develop training for engineers/partner groups and assist less experienced colleagues in planning, conceptual/detail engineering, and the field, as appropriate for level.
  • Support the project team at commission meetings and community open houses, as appropriate for level.
  • Assist with, interpret, or communicate company policies and procedures to internal stakeholders and external project support partners, as appropriate for level.
  • Serve as a management consultant on engineering problems and issues, as appropriate for level.
  • Control technical, financial, and service commitments to internal and external customers, as appropriate for level.
  • Provide project management support that includes budget forecasts, scheduling, coordination, construction/commissioning for small, medium, or large-sized projects, as appropriate for level.
  • Gain knowledge, apply, or serve as an expert in skills related to best industry practice, Utility Standards, Codes, or other Legal Standards used to support electrical engineering projects and safe and reliable equipment operation.
  • Research, understand, or perform work on systems related to impacts to FERC, NERC, and CIP compliance standards, as appropriate for level.
