Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in electrical transmission line design engineering.
• Proficiency with Power Line and Structure modeling for computer-aided design development (PLS CADD and associated modules like POLE, TOWER).
• Proficiency with Excel, MFAD, or L-PILE, NESC.
• Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and practices for electric utility practice.
• Interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated initiative and ability to lead.
• Attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

• P.E. preferred, with the ability to be certified as a professional engineer as soon as eligible.
• Knowledge in ACI, ASCE Pole manual, AISC Steel manual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Function as a Transmission Engineer on assigned projects of varying complexity, responsible for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic attachment.
• Design or assist in the design of various transmission and distribution line projects.
• Perform preliminary design and budgetary estimates for projects ranging from 115kV to 500kV, including planning and design for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic attachment.
• Develop material lists in Excel spreadsheets.
• Develop structure framing details, specifying parts, hardware, insulators, and grounding details for various pole materials (steel, round wood, laminated wood).
• Be familiar with environmental and licensing processes and coordinate related issues in transmission line design.
• Site new transmission lines and assess the impacts of real estate, licensing, and environmental constraints on the engineering process.
• Develop project schedules incorporating design, client reviews, licensing, and other activities for successful project completion.
• Develop plan and profile drawings.
• Develop complete design packages with details for construction, including work lists, construction staking tables, and stringing sag charts.
• Develop material and construction specifications.
• Perform engineering calculations to ensure the safety and performance of equipment and systems.
• Coordinate equipment delivery and design engineering to meet construction schedules.
• Assist in checking completed jobs for design adequacy and documentation.
• Monitor the construction of transmission line projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
• Act as Resident Engineer on projects of any magnitude.
• Observe safety and security procedures, determine appropriate action beyond guidelines, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly.
• Interpret complex plans and specifications and apply information to ensure project design requirements are satisfied.
• Maintain familiarity with appropriate engineering and construction codes and ensure compliance.
• Assist in the preparation and/or monitoring of complex construction schedules.
• Assist in on-site design or investigation work to ensure the adequacy of contractor methods.
