About The Position

Operate, repair, inspect and maintain the cooperative's substations and transmission facilities and record all field inspection data in a timely manner. This role involves performing regular inspections of substations and transmission lines, identifying necessary repairs, and providing labor for maintenance tasks. The technician will also be responsible for updating field inspection software, assisting with apparatus testing, and preparing load switching procedures. A key aspect of the role is reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics, and applying this knowledge in the field while adhering to safety practices.

Requirements

  • 5 years Substation experience preferred or equivalent electrical experience
  • Valid NC Driver's License Required
  • Class A or B Driver's License Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform substation inspections monthly, visually inspecting insulators, switches, overhead conductors, and general station condition.
  • Identify needed repairs and adjustments in substations and report to supervisor.
  • Provide labor for substation maintenance, including apparatus, fences, buildings, and gravel.
  • Record all field inspection data in a timely manner using field inspection software and update any incorrect information.
  • Provide information to Engineering and assist in updating and maintaining field inspection software.
  • Perform substation/transmission maintenance work as required.
  • Perform recloser control testing as needed or when directed.
  • Assist with other apparatus testing as needed or when directed.
  • Assist in the maintenance, repair, and upgrades of the SCADA system and camera system as needed.
  • Prepare load switching procedures and help implement switching procedures as needed.
  • Facilitate crews or contractors to accomplish needed repairs and adjustments in a time-efficient manner.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders, applying this knowledge in the field.
  • Utilize manuals and resources to make sound decisions independently.
  • Understand and implement safety practices and processes of the industry.
  • Patrol each assigned transmission line monthly, visually inspecting insulators, switches, overhead conductors, and any other attachment.
  • Inspect transmission switches as required with field inspection software and record required information.
  • Detect faulty operations or materials and report all unusual conditions to engineering.
  • Observe and practice all safety procedures and bulletins and keep work area clean and orderly.
  • Perform other similar or related duties as assigned.
