About The Position

The Transmission and Substation Standards team sponsors, authors, and maintains standards and specifications for the design, procurement, and construction of Xcel Energy’s transmission system. The Standards team works across the enterprise, coordinating with various Transmission work groups, Supply Chain, Distribution, and Safety. Interns will be exposed to a wide breadth of Xcel Energy. The Transmission and Substation Standards team is located in Minneapolis, MN; Denver, Colorado; and Eau Claire, WI.

Requirements

  • Current student, Sophomore or higher
  • Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to communicate effectively; both written and verbally
  • Must be self-motivated, have good mechanical aptitude, and ability to work well with others
  • Course work in power delivery or project management and an interest in the power industry is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Engineering staff to support Standards projects.
  • Work as an entry level engineering analyst doing tasks spanning all aspects of standards development including scope creation, knowledge transfer from subject matter experts, project management, and document preparation.
